I am a newbie having exactly the same problem as quoted here:

The suggested fix works, but only briefly?! If I switch between html and Visual Editor views, the code for non-breaking space gets removed.

I cannot line spacing to work properly at all...

Any help greatly appreciated,

That is how wordpress works.

There are some plugins that change this behaviour, just google for 'wpautop'.
