I can't access any pages without putting a trailing "/" and I never had to do that before... so that means that none of my links in the site work because they don't have that trailing "/"
It also means that I can't login to the admin because, even if I manually go to "http://northcoastimports.com/wp-login.php/" , after I put in the login info it redirects me to "http://northcoastimports.com/wp-login.php" without the backslash and then I get a "broken-link" error from the browser.
Also, "http://northcoastimports.com/wp-admin/" gives me a "broken-link" message, and so does "http://northcoastimports.com/wp-admin"
I haven't had this problem before in over a year of using this website. I have two other installations of WP, and all three use the Atahualpa Theme - all with the same problem. I also have an installation of WP with WordPress Default 1.6 that works okay.
I have two other threads in the WP forum that talks about the problem and what I've done so far:

What did you change on the site?
Do any upgrades of WP or a theme?
Any upgrades done to the server by your host?
Add anything new?

Nope, nothing's changed that I'm aware of. That's what's so maddening.
It happened with all of my Atahualpa installations at once. I haven't even made any new posts in a while.
if I go to the subdirectory that has all the pics, I can just enter "http://northcoastimports.com/pics" (no trailing /) and I get there just fine.
Here's a comparison:
http://sternreiter.com/wp-admin
works correctly, standard WP theme, no pretty URL
http://northcoastimports.com/wp-admin
doesn't work, Atahualpa Theme, pretty URL
http://northcoastimports.com/design/wp-admin
doesn't work, Atahualpa Theme, no pretty URL
http://northcoastimports.com/museum/wp-admin
doesn't work, Atahualpa Theme, pretty URL
The only similarity that I can find in the three WP installations that don't work is that they all have Atahualpa theme. Can anyone think of a way in which Atahualpa would mess with trailing / or with the admin login?

If you switch to the twentyten theme for the northcoastimports site do you still have the problem?

Use FTP to go to the root and rename the '.htaccess' file to 'oldhtaccess' and see if you can get in

Sorry about that... I was asking without thinking.

Thanks for your help. I already tried with a blank .htaccess, a fresh .htaccess, and test.htaccess (no .htaccess file) - same results:

lmilesw: no problem. I wasn't sure if I missed something. I didn't know if you could try another theme without logging in.

You can go into the atahualpa theme folder and rename index.php to old index.php and wp will switch to the default theme
Also, I seem to remember that htaccess files are cumulative so try renaming the htaccess file in the root

Try using this url to access your backend http://northcoastimports.com/wp-login.php/
I got me to the login screen.

Yes, I've already tried that too. It only gets me to the login screen, but as soon as I enter login and password I get a 404 because (I suspect) that part of the login process involves a reroute that doesn't include a trailing /.
If you wouldn't mind, please take a moment to follow those two links I provided to the WP forum as they cover what I've tried so far. The threads aren't long. It won't take but a second to read through.
I'll try a different theme the way you suggest. We are talking about the root .htaccess file so, I don't know what else I can do there.

I tried renaming the .htaccess file in the root. Same result.
I tried renaming the Atahualpa theme index.php to oldindex.php. Same result on the login and got a blank screen for the website. I since changed it back.
Any help? This is driving me crazy!

This is beyond the forums - have you contacted your host to see if any changes were recently implemented?
