I'm trying to avoid using another plugin to do this. I want to add the Google tag snippet and of course it says to add in each page. Can I just add it to the body top under HTML/CSS inserts?

Google says to place it immediately after the opening <body> tag.
<!-- Google Tag Manager -->
<noscript><iframe src="//www.googletagmanager.com/ns.html?id=GTM-SZ3X"
height="0" width="0" style="display:none;visibility:hidden"></iframe></noscript>
<script>(function(w,d,s,l,i){w[l]=w[l]||[];w[l].push({'gtm.start':
new Date().getTime(),event:'gtm.js'});var f=d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0],
j=d.createElement(s),dl=l!='dataLayer'?'&l='+l:''; j.async=true;j.src=
'//www.googletagmanager.com/gtm.js?id='+i+dl;f.parentNode.insertBefore(j,f);
})(window,document,'script','dataLayer','GTM-SZ3X');</script>
<!-- End Google Tag Manager --

I did put it in the Body tag, i guess but I guess what I'm asking is whether this covers it for all pages since google says to add it for all pages. This does that, right?

Yes it does. Did you put it 'in' the body tag or just after it?

Sorry, I did miss this response. I put it in the Body Tag. I've got no problems so far so I assume i did it right?

if you put it in 'HTML Inserts: Body Tag' then it will be part of the <body....> statement and I'd expect you to get an error on the page.

I've actually had it there for several days with no problem. Should it be in Body Top?

Well I see it in the body and am surprised you don't see errors espically in IE. Non the less, I would move it to the 'HTML Inserts: Body Top' option
