Adding background image to center column, no sidebars used

Please, easy directions for adding a background image to the center column?
ATA 3.7.10
In style and edit center column, I used:
background: url(/wp-content/themes/atahualpa/images/wood.jpg) repeat top left;

but it's not showing up. Using FF 18.0 if that's useful.

TIA for any advice!

I am just guessing without a link to the site but you could try using the full path to the image.
