Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

Hi !

Happy to be a new user of Flynn's superb theme which I downloaded about a week ago on WP 2.7.1.

I have 2 problems to resolve:

1. This morning, when viewing the site, the center column was larger ! How it happened I cannot say, but where can I go to fix the width back to what it was before ?

( you can see what I mean here on my blog on the ABOUT US page: www.scotiana.com/about )

2. We want to offer our readers the feature to read our english blog and our french blog by the click of an icon. But, we do not want the french site to be a translation of the english site. We want to write posts respectively in each of them. They can be of different subjects.

How can I install a french atahualpa version on my main english atahualpa blog ?

Just by downloading the fr_FR_2.mo ? would that not change the english site ? I am confused.

Many thanks in advance for your guiding lights !

Wales, UK
I'd be interested in a discussion about this. I live and work in Wales UK and I'd like to be able to offer visitors a Welsh or English experience.
I found this interesting

Why not having a multilingual blog? ;-) The best plugin doing that is transposh "http://transposh.org/". Very simple and a really great support. You can have a look at www.wuergegriff.info. But please apologize for the english translation I have to adapt it... All translations are at first google translation but they can really easily adapted.

Have a look at this thread I started about a multilingual version of Atahualpa which uses WPML. It includes a preview in English, Spanish and German, you can download the modified theme and see that changes did.

Transposh sucks big as long as you can't directly post in two languages like with qtranslate...
The google translate options are pretty nice though....

Qtranslate is dead slow (doubles to tripples pageloadtime)...

WPML seems a bit clumsy according to documentation, but I have not tried it out yet.

Let me know if you need any help with WPML. Maybe it's not as complicated as you think.

The way it's built, there's no speed decrease for running multilingual sites. In WPML, each post has a single languages and translations are grouped together. It's not very visible from the user's side but it makes the multilingual operation run just as fast as a single language blog would run.

I applaud your effort, but I'm afraid of a few things....

1. I am dependant on you providing new Atahualpa versions. Other plugins work out of the box with the themes, and maybe 1-2 small adaptations.
-- Therefore it's more likely to run into problems when adapting other aspects of the theme as changes might confligt.

2. I would need to change all of my tags I assume. That's quite a lot of work.

3. I'm using fckeditor (in my eyes wordpress in-built editor sucks as What it shows is not what you get (i.e. formatting lost when switching from visual to html view) and you don't even tell what tags one has to use. I'm sure that the custom pages to edit titles/text... simply won't work for fckeditor.

4. I have not seen any documentation how to translate widget titles....

5. what about mod rewrite, I need my blog to be mysite.org/de/%category%/%page% or mysite.org/en/.... I have not found any documentation on this. I can't impossibly change this, as this would cost a good amount of google juice....

.... So while I think it's great, I think you still have quite a lot of work.

Currently qtranslate is clearly the most used plugin, if you are sure you're plugin is better, providing an import function for qtranslate would be great. Adding tags on 130 pages by hand in html mode is not so great....

I think that if your site already runs using qTranslate and you're happy with it, there's no good reason to change to anything else.

Widget titles are translated using WPML's string translation mechanism. When you add a new widget, the titles would appear for translation in WPML->String translation. Same place where the string that you enter through the theme's admin screen are localized.

okay, well the performance of qtranslate is lousy... though it's quite simple, therefore I don't really get why performance degrades two-threefold with qtranslate. Using standard theme this is okay, but using atahualpa it really becomes somethink to think about.
