IE doesn't load the button images for the page menu. In firefox, safari etc everythings works fine.

Not sure if this will fix it but I have seen this be an issue. Instead of the background shorthand try using.
backgournd-image:
background-color:
background-postion:
background-repeat:
background-attachment:
