I would like to have the background color of my post titles a color and would also like to have color in my widget titles. When I try to change the color in the theme options boxes it doesn't work. any suggestions would be appreciated.

have you looked at the sttings at ATO->Style POSTS & PAGES?

I am using Atahualpa 3.4.6 and WP 2.9.2

I have put the code
color: #660000 in the box formatting area in style post pages. Is this the wrong coding? thanks!

For background color of the title: ATO > Style Post and Pages > HEADLINE Box
background-color: #660000;

For widget titles:
ATO > style widgets > widget title box
background-color: #660000;
