Hello, and thanks for an awesome theme.

I would like to use a custom image instead of a blog title. I still want my tagline to appear, but I want it to be directly below the custom image... And I want both to be centered at the top of the page.

I have been poking at the "Header Area" configuration for a while now, but I just cannot figure out how to make this happen. Help?

You will probably want to use a combination of not showing the blog title and using the positioning functions in "Style and edit header area". You will probably have to fiddle around with the CSS for the logo and blog tagline to get the right positioning.
