Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA - adding javascript with <body> onLoad command

Hello Atahualpa community.

I am fairly new to wordpress and the atahualpa theme. It is amazing. I am working on a site and trying to add a custom image gallery utilizing the add HTML/CSS inserts section of the theme options editor (which is incredibly well thought out). when I add my javascript to the head and my onload command to the respective fields that are available everything seems to be working, except that it is not displaying correctly on the page.

Can anyone offer me some help? I am new to using javascript and am using some cut and paste scripts that work fine when I work with traditional HTML websites. But for some reason they are not working correctly within the atahualpa theme. I know there are tons of plugings that will work, but As a designer I dont like being limited to plugin parameters.
