I'm converting my blog from custom software to Wordpress and using Atahualpa. It's great!

Is it possible to have single posts display differently depending on their category?

Among my various categories have 2 special categories, "Photos" and "Splash". For "photos" posts I want nothing but next/prev and comments. No sidebars, no header, no footer. For "Splash" posts I want noting but the content of the post.

Is there any way to accomplish this? Categories? Tags? Extra data?

Thank you for helping me out.

You could create a PAGE called 'photos' and then use one of the plugins to display your photos. You can then control the items (sidebars, style) for this PAGE.

Doing it by category would be difficult since any post can be in multiple categories. While you can identify the POST by it's category name, the PAGE it is displayed on doesn't know the category so you can't style the PAGE (sidebars, background etc)

If you are just looking for a way to have a post show up a bit differently the Custom Post Background plugin will allow you to have a different background on an individual post.

That's disappointing. I need the each photo to be a post as they have individual user comments associated with each photo, and I need them displayed with a separate style (no sidebars) because they are too big to fit in the main style with side bars. Plus the sidebars, header and footer would detract from the photos.

I guess I could put them on a separate wordpress installation but that seems like overkill just to be able to have some photos.

Hmmm, maybe I can use the Custom Post Background plugin and use CSS to make the sidebars and header be "display: none;". I'll give it a try.

solved:

Your suggestion of "Custom Post Background" lead to a search in which I found "Custom Post Template"

Thank you for your help.
