Is there a way to get the full name of the post author displayed instead of just their user name?

The %author% tag will display the name specified at dashboard->Users->edit->Display name publicly as - So if you set this to the users first name then last name, then that is how it will show up in the post byline (assuming you set up the byline info correctly
