Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

Confused with "Virtual File System"

Hi there,

I'm developing a new site using this Montezuma stunning theme but I am not used to do online changes thru "Virtual Fle System".

As a computer engineer, I always update new files (php, css) using Filezilla after having been modified in Notepad++, cause I can work offline wherever I want. Besides, managing backups for me is much better.

What about if I press by mistake "Reset All" whilst editing a file? All changes will be deleted!! No possibility to revert changes? Not possible revert just the current modified file?

Is there any other way to modify files?

Many thanks, lads!

The 'virtual Files' allow you to make changes to files, update the theme and not lose the changes.
You can always export the theme settings for backups. It may take a little getting use to but that's true for all changes

thanks juggledad!
I was trying to create a new page template via FTP but, as I have supposed, I have to import header, footer, all stylesheet, etc. Once again, this theme has been build to create page templates as a "virtual file".

I am considering seriously to skip to other responsive WP theme which allows me to make changes thru FTP. I think most of WP themes works using "phisical files".
In case of switch, I will have to migrate the montezuma menu, cause in my opinion is really cool. Albeit, header becomes a bit taller.

I will try to adapt to Montezuma those forthcoming weeks, but I'm not enough convinced if this hierarchy of virtual files is good for me.

you guys, are you use to work using virtual files? I'm wondering what pros and cons must have.

#1 pro - when you update the theme you do not lose any thing you have done. All the virtual templates are stored in the WP DB as an option. If you use FTP to change another theme's files and then do an automatic update, you will lose all the changes you have made. Even if you have a backup of the file, the upgrade could have changed that file so the old one could cause the theme to fail.
