Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

Atahualpa vs. iThemes Builder?

There has been a lot of noise about iThemes Builder which was just released last December 2009:
http://ithemes.com/purchase/builder-theme/
Which is partly because Builder is rumored to be the upgrade from the hugely popular Flexx theme.

However when I look at so-called "child themes":

There is nothing there I could not do in Atahualpa in half an hour (including the multiple side-bar widget areas, which can be done in Atahualpa by registering new widget areas inside an Advanced Text Widget as described in this article.

I am interested in y'all thoughts and feedbacks about this. Should I buy an iThemes Builder license and recommend it to my clients? Or should I just go with Flexx? Or forget about either one? I might have a hard time customizing Atahualpa to a Flexx look (or teaching my clients to do it). I run a web design training business and want to recommend to my customers the largest choice possible to give them a professional site. I already work extensively with Atahualpa but need to offer some choices.

Thanks for feedback on this.

I am convinced that there is nothing I cant do in Atahalpa. The only thing I wish it could do is rotate the banner a little cooler like these:

Kal,
if you right-click over the image you'll see this is a flash player:

So you can easily do that.

Does that mean that the cu3er flash player can be inserted into the rotating banner in Atahualpa?

No just put a custom widget in the banner area and then insert a text widget containing the flash player code that cu3 will give you. See Atahaulpa Theme Options > Add New Widget area for instructions and then put the PHP widget code directly into Style & Edit Header Area, replacing the %image.

Give it a shot, if you have any more questions I will check back a bit later.

I bought iThemes Builder and I find it cumbersome. It also gives me hiccups in FireFox. I'll stick with Atahualpa and Themeframe with an occasional Artisteer build but I am moving away from Artisteer as Atahualpa just does things easier and is way too configurable.
