Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

PHP Speedy

In my continuing fight to get my sites running faster, I've installed PHP Speedy on two of them. Both sites are running WP 2.8.5 and Atahualpa 3.4.4, and both also have the Featured Content Gallery plugin running on the front page. I think maybe there is a slight speed improvement, but I'd like to get some feedback. I've enabled the speed meter in the footer, so would you please visit the sites, note the speed, reload the page and note the speed again? I would appreciate it!

OK, that's about what I'm getting, and a bit slower in Firefox.

It's weird that the second reload can take longer. Why is that, I wonder? I guess it's worth having the plugin, don't you think?

try this out also (the free version).

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/web-optimizer/

It worked better for me than php speedy (faster). And php speedy caused some javascript conflicts.

I had to turn off gzip css compression and gzip html compression but all the other defaults I left on. The gzip I believe is done by my server (bluehost) or conflicts with FastCGI.

On one of my websites I also had to turn off the "move to body" options. Weird that it worked differently on different websites on the same server but who knows?

When I tested on pingdom, there was not really any change but there is a noticeable speed up when loading the site. I am guessing that somehow pingdom is not accurately measuring all the things like caching the javascript that the plugin is actually doing.

Wow. I tried Web Optimizer on another of my sites, and it totally blew up the formatting. Uh-uh. Nope.

Did you turn off css gzip and html gzip? Also try turning of the two "move to body boxes" in the first section. I have it running on 4 websites and am pleased with the speed increasesx on them all. Check out this website of mine (not atahualpa) www.athomepetsitting.com. It flies.

The atahualpa site with 96 plugins also running web optimizer is www.d4v.org
