Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

Okay! Truth is I'm as new to blogging as I am to WordPress and Atahualpa. I'm setting up a website mostly comprised of "static pages" and have been happy to NOT enable either Comments or Pings in the WP admin's Edit Page.

But now, I'm creating the "news" page on which the farm/company blog will reside.

Re: allowing Pings (Trackbacks AND Pingbacks):

1) what's the current thinking? Trackbacks in particular seem to have caused people problems.
2) what is the "official Flynn stance"?
3) is there anywhere that lays out the pros and cons intelligently and clearly allowing the curious to make an educated choice?

I am not a very experienced "Blogger" myself, I am sure others can provide better info here but this is my take: There are good and bad track/pingbacks just like there are good and bad comments.

I allow everything but also moderate everything, meaning neither comments nor pings go on air without approval. But I do approve frequently and quick so comment authors don't get frustrated. I find it important to do good housekeeping on the comments/pings. I see whole lists of spam comments even on high profile blogs.

Some pings/... DO lead to interesting posts, and I would also look whether my own site is linked somewhere in that post or not. Technically the other blog could ping mine without putting up a visible link. In that case I might still accept the ping if I am at least mentioned in the post.

There are articles about the little differences between ping/pingback/trackback but I have none available right now.

I am moving this to the main forum so it gets more exposure. I am still working on categorizing the forum and the threads

Interesting, as I have SET to Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)

and yet, this does not work, i.e. does not show up anywhere.

BTW ... I have posted (elsewhere) earlier http://forum.bytesforall.com/showthread.php?t=3337

Thanks.
