Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

[SOLVED] Add new widget area - "fatal error"

I'm trying to use the "add new widget area function". I'm using a new install of WP with no plug-ins yet. Atahualpa 3.4.1 and WP 2.8.4

I've tried starting with the minimum code (<?php bfa_widget_area('name=My new widget area'); ?>) and adding it into the Configure Header Area box, after %logo %image %pages. That gave a fatal area, so I tried adding the same code into Center Column area in the Above the Loop box. Same error.

This is the error I get "Fatal error: Call to undefined function: str_ireplace() in /home/username/public_html/username/wp-content/themes/atahualpa/functions.php on line 314"

Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks
Carol Smith

OSX 10.11.5 WP 4.x Atahualpa(all) Safari, Firefox, Chrome
you are using PHP 4.x - str_ireplace() was added to PHP 5.x
Check with your host to see if they have an option to swap to php 5. I beleive at GoDaddy it's controled by a line in the .htaccess file

Thanks for your help juggledad. I'll contact my host - I remember seeing something about PHP4. If they can't help then I'll live without extra widget areas.

you can edit the code and replace the str_ireplace() with str_replace(), but you would be better upgrading to php5

Just looked in cpanel and it says I'm on PHP 5.2.9.

I was hoping I could just add the widget code without editing any of the index.php, header.php etc documents.

Make sure you are RUNNING php 5. Try adding the plugin 'wp-security scan' (http://semperfiwebdesign.com/plugins/wp-security-scan/) and it wil show you which version you are running. If you get the error you described, it's because you are runnining php4
