Troubleshooting with 2 issues. Sidebar background color and center column text height

Hello

Need some help with my site.

I cannot get a background color to show on the sidebar. I presume this is done via the "Style and configure sidebar" tab on the theme options.

I have the following in the 'right siderbar style' box

padding: 0 10px;
font: #000000;
font-weight: bold;
background; #7EAAE7

Second. As you can see via the link the text is 50px below the border of the center column. How do I fix this?
