Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

check to make sure your image size is the same of bigger than the size you defined the header image to be

Thanks Juggledad, I checked that already, and they are the same. And even when it was bigger, the theme would cut the image to match the header image but still leave the padding top and bottom. you are talking about the header image: Height option you find in the atahualpa options settings aren't you? thanks again

Just a thought... Could this "padding" perhaps be the %bar1 and %bar2 which by default are on the top and bottom of the image. See ATA>Style & edit HEADER AREA>Configure Header Area. If so you can just remove both of them.
