footer not loading on HOME page

I added 4 widget areas in my footer.php file. It worked well as I continued to modify everything else. All of a sudden the footer was gone. Not on all the pages, just the home page. This is strange, right? I'm not using any sidebars just custom widget areas under the loop on the home page and in the footer throughout the site. I also do not post copying form word.
