Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

Photo background image repeats vertically

I'm trying to use a background image much like was suggested in Body Style. I pretty much copied the example code "Setting a background image for the body: background: url(/wp-content/themes/atahualpa3/images/backgr.gif) repeat top left;"

My problem is two fold - the background gif file repeats across the screen as desired, but also several times as you scroll down the blog. Also I'm noticing that it looks very chunky with the gradient fade.

Take a peek at my site and you will see what I mean: DrSoszka.com

Thanks,
Shawn

With regards to the repeating you can limit the repeat to only be across my using repeat-x as in the following. If you wanted the background to repeat down you would use repeat-y.

background: url('img_tree.png') repeat-x top left;

With regards to the chunkiness that is a function of how the image was created. Maybe someone else can explain that better but I would just be fiddling around in Photoshop until it looked right. Gradients can be "tricky"

What you are seeing in the image is 'banding'. this effect occurs when you save an image as a gif and don't specify 'dithering'.

Here is a reference for creating a gradient - http://www.loriswebs.com/tutorials/g...ackground.html

Thanks for that info juggledad. Now I don't have to be "fiddling around in Photoshop" until I get it right.
