does it have to be one image per post? coould it be a page that displays a gallery of images and he images link to the pages you want? If so there are probably some plugins that will do that for you.

Do a google search using something like link gallery wordpress plugin and try some.

sounds like you should consider coding a home.php (or front-page.php) and customize it to do what you want it to do.
