Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

I have two images. One of the charles bridge, which looks fine, and one of numerous pics of arabic stuff. Both are 1280 w X 175 H
BUT the arabic one spills over, cuts off the ends of the left and right pictures. Confused :{

Help a newbee?

Are you sure? Both of them work the same way for me. The cut off on both ends is expected behavior when the images don't fit into the layout width or given browser viewport, and both are being cut off. You just may not notice it on the bridge image?

You can change the image alignment (and where to cut off the images) at Theme Options -> Header Image -> Header Image: Alignment

Thanks, but under header image I see only Header Image: Height

not width? A lot about opacity, but since both images are 1300 w how can I ensure that the full photos are seen regradless of viewpoint? I know that as one decreases the browser size, at some point it will cut off, but to not see the end photos in the full size is funky

New to this, appreciate your help

Make the layout a fixed width of 1300 pixels instead of the 99% that you have now, at Theme Options -> Layout WIDTH and type (FLUID or FIXED)
if you don't want the image to be cut off no matter what the visitors screen size is. This will cause a horizontal scrollbar for visitors with screen sizes smaller than 1300 pixels

urg, forgive me, but what would you suggest for a pixel width that is most universial? No matter I set the pixel size to, I either cant view the full photo, or there is a hor. scroll bar, which I want to avoid. You directions were correct, but am asking for best practice type advice now...

Fixed widths are usually set for 1024 pixel monitors because that covers most users http://marketshare.hitslink.com/report.aspx?qprid=17 while still providing enough horizontal space for most sites. The widest width Atahualpa can be set to without causing horizontal scrollbars on any browser in 1024px monitors is 1004px. The remaining 20px are needed for the vertical scrollbar.

Flynn, thanks again. Allow me to further this. All of my photos in my photo gallery (page tab at the top) are set to 1200 width (already uploaded). If I set the theme to any less, the photos dont load full and need to be clicked again to view full in a seperate window. What I seek is a happy medium, where one can view my photos in the gallery page, and also so that I can have a header image. In light of the uploaded photos at 1200, shouldnt I make my header image the same? Im sorry for my newness and appreciate your help...

right now I have the theme set to 900, which allows me to view the header I recreated at 900 just fine, however, this screws up the photo gallery pics :{

You could alleviate this a bit by turning off the sidebars for the page with the ID 14 (the gallery page), at Theme Options -> Sidebars, and setting your width to 1004px at least (why did you make it that narrow, 900px, now?), or 1260px (up to 1/3 of your visitors would get a horizontal sidebar, but the share of 1024px users could be significantly less on your site, just like the share of Firefox users is significantly higher than average on "geeky", webmaster related sites).

Or set the layout width to 99% fluid again, with a min width of 1000px and a max width of slightly less than your header images are, i.e. 1290. Also consider using a gallery plugin that'll open your images on top of the page, without disturbing the layout, i.e. NextGen gallery

thanks for your reply, a bit confused; Atahualpa Theme Options->settings...I dont see a settings tab, I do see a RSS settings though..? I use to use Gallery, G2, but I like the fact that the sidebars remain, although if I cant get the photos to open within, then I must go back to something that opens in a new window. WHat is ID 14?
Hope I am not bothering you, appreciate your help

I meant "Sidebars", not "Settings". I updated the post above.

I have a similar situation. The header on http://www.shiroshears.com cuts off on some screen sizes. A horizontal scroll bar is fine, but it's not doing that.

I've set it to 1300 px fixed and it still does it.

When you want to set the width to a fixed size, you must add 'px to the number. Change ATO->Style & configure LAYOUT->Layout WIDTH and type (FLUID or FIXED) - from '1250' to '1250px'

As far as I read all this, I think I'm having a similar issue but don't quite understand the solutions.

I am on a MAC. I am sizing my pictures at 1440 X 250 in EasyCrop before uploading them to GoDaddy, where my site is hosted.

When the pictures upload, only a central portion of them shows.

http://www.oleaustin.com

The picture with the fence is supposed to include the Texas Capitol and some trees.
The skyline shot is missing some of the ground (and other stuff).
The picture of the top of the house is cut off slightly.
The two interior shots aren't showing everything.

Is there a way to code it so they'll be whole at all times? Would that mean my page won't be sizable for different monitors?

Thanks!

the picture of the fence is 2041x354 pixels, but the hight of the image area is only 150 so you will only see less than half the height and the width of the picture is 2041 pixwlas. When I streach the page across two monitors I see the whole width.

Check your picture sizes again

I still don't entirely understand. I changed my easycrop settings to 1024 X 150. That helped some but it's still cutting stuff off.
Is the problem with my picture settings? If so, what's the ideal easy crop setting?
If not, where do I made the change?
Thanks much! http://oleaustin.com

Hmm..... I don't get it. I'm using a custom ratio in EasyCrop of 1024 by 150.
You say to visit your PM. What does that mean? Thanks!
