Auto menus (*sigh* do I HAVE to use Wordpress's menu system?)

So I was really enjoying Atahualpa's menu system, because I could simply add parents and children of pages and it would auto-populate the menus -- this goes away with Wordpress menu system, which now I have to manually put together the menu system. Is there any way to get the "old" menu system back? The only setting I really want to control is the depth of the menus -- everything else should be taken care of by the page hierarchy we are using. Help!
