Wordpress Themes - WP Forum at BFA
There will be no more development for Atahualpa (or any other theme), and no support. Also no new registrations. I turned off the donation system. I may turn the forum to read only if it gets abused for spam. Unfortunately I have no time for the forum or the themes. Thanks a lot to the people who helped in all these years, especially Larry and of course: Paul. Take care and stay healthy -- Flynn, Atahualpa developer, Sep 2021

And now for something completely different!

Atahualpa is so flexible that I got a little carried away! I got a LOT of help from Flynn and Juggledad in the beginning. Since then, I have been able to mess things up on my very own. It really is Atahualpa at heart, and I couldn't have done it without that great base.

After a couple of years of spending (a LOT) of money on "premium" themes, I got completely fed up. I started searching for a somewhat decent free theme (if it's free, it can't be good, right?), and found Atahualpa. OMG. In about four hours I had figured out how Atahualpa works, some of its quirks and language, completely redesigned my site, and love it. So do my readers.

The good thing about going from theme to theme and trying to figure out how they work is that I learned php, and while I won't say that I have it down cold, it's enough that I really appreciate the wonderful ease in using this theme.

This is my site, and I was more than happy to send in a donation. Because I'm thinking about using it for a couple of other sites, I will probably be sending more. You guys absolutely rock!

Hi, I love your front page. It was designed quite nicely. Would you mind telling me how do you get the latest news rolling and stop with mouse over? I am new to wordpress.

I was tired of hacking a bunch of theme parts together to try and get the look I wanted (and of course losing out on any upgrades because of those hacks). Trying to rework my (really old) custom theme for WP 3.0 menus finally pushed me over the edge. Went in search of a decent theme and I was quite willing to compromise to avoid the headaches of maintaining my own. Atahualpa gives me a great look out of the box, but I'm amazed how easy tweaking the theme can be. Plenty of buttons, knobs and sliders to set, but also the ability to add bits of custom code where needed.

2 days work and a few visits to the forums and here's what I've got ...

Awesome!

I've been working on this one for awhile, but I think the client will sign off soon and it'll be done!
Love to hear what ya'll think, especially those using the dreaded IE......I'm working on a Mac, primarily using Firefox as my browser, with testing done in Safari and Opera.

Thanks much!!

Both sites look pretty hip to me - makes me wish I could read German.....

I've done a few conversions of sites that were not previously WordPress.

Both of these had their challenges.

www.MyCentralPharmacy.com - originally used Atahualpa as just the "blog" then a year later converted the whole site, including several pages of embedded content.

www.IPSB.com
had a lot of complexity within the original structure, and also has some content that is pulled from a separate database.

I like your color choices. One suggestion is to set the background as fixed so it doesn't scroll with the center of the page. It's a little easier on the eyes. You would use the following which replaces scroll with fixed to your background statement. The order for the properties was incorrect as well. It shoudl be color, image, repeat, attachment, position.
HTML Code:
background: #744C42 url("http://cafechoc.com/wp-content/themes/atahualpa/images/bgtile.jpg") repeat fixed left top;

This is my newest Atahualpa site

http://owitchicago.org.

FWIW, it's one a number of sites I will be showing when I give a presentation about Atahualpa at the popular WordPressNYC meetup in mid-November. I welcome suggestions and links to any especially interesting sites built with our favorite theme. Send them directly to me:

joe@buildinghosting.com (and that site is also an Atahualpa-based site).

Thanks Larry will do that for sure. It is a bit trippy when you scroll. The orange is the same orange that Flynn has used to highlight the active options page in Ata.
I chose it by accident because I was looking for a contrasting colour to see where a colour change occurred and I liked how it looked so I kept it. So thanks to Flynn not only for a great theme, but his choice of colour

I'm rather proud of this: Savenor's Market in Boston and Cambridge. A good local business that's passionate about their products, it's been quite fun working with them.

After customizing and creating child themes for some time on other projects, I decided to give Atahualpa a try because it was very well-reviewed and it was laid out similarly to the design I wanted to use. So easy! I'm hooked.

Thank you for the wealth of information and quick responses on the help forum, as well! You guys are great.

Here are some comments.
Did I miss what town Leslie works in? I found the phone number on the contact form but T shouldn't have to did so hard. I was a little uncertain if this was a business site or I love dogs site.

All the degrees she has don't have the educational institution. I would also change the post URL to words instead of page IDs. Although the front page is nice with the photo, why should I have to click through so many pages to get to content. That is a web usability issue.

I started with WordPress and Atahualpa in March of this year and I was totally new to this. Since then and multiple revisions later here is what I ended up with (it may still have a couple of kinks, but I have it doing what I want).

Really happy with how easy it was to customize Atahualpa to our needs. Great theme!
Please let me know what you think of the site.

re Savenor's Market, this is very impressive.

I will be presenting Atahualpa Nov 16th to the monthly meeting of WordPressNYC. I'd hoping for your permission to offer this site as an example of how far Atahualpa can be extended. Since I can't see all that you did so beautifully, I'm hoping you will answer some questions, either here in the forum or though direct email (harkins.joe@gmail.com).

In looking at View Source I can't see an eCommerce plugin but obviously there is a shopping cart. I see an /onlinemarket/ but still no shopping cart. So, how did you create he cart?

By the same method, i see a plugin Alkivia Framework but in exploring the site, I can't see how you are using it. Can you point me to a nav meu link that will do that?

Great layout but large blocks of reverse text are a major readability issue.

On that same point, the dark background does not give the impression that Capetown is a bright and inviting place.

Hi guys, thought I would share my frontpage for you all to see. I have tried out lots and lots of CMS's in an effort to find something to compliment my busy forum but nothing ever hit the spot until now.. I have dumped my old Joomla driven site and am using this theme on wordpress.

http://www.toyotagtturbo.com

Site traffic has gone through the roof since deploying this new portal and I have also seen an increase in time spent on the site and pages viewed per visit.

I had no hesitation in donating and will be donating again soon as I will be using this theme on more sites in the future.
