Showing Off
I am thoroughly and totally impressed with Atahualpa 3. I wondered if people might be interested in showing off what they have done with it?
My first site is oddly an attempt to take a great deal of the functionality back OUT - partly to see if I can use this theme for just about everything I want to do. The site is essentially not a blog at all. And yes, I CAN do it!
go see WebinarAce to see it - has rotating images but just pages apart from that.
Anyway, maybe we can see some other sites??

I've done quite a bit of configuring with my site The Wander Girl. I love this theme because I can customize without having to learn a lot of code. I know the basics of html and css and that was enough for me to build a custom site.

Hi Flur,
I like what you've done with the theme. Could you please tell me how you centered the page bar and how you made the header image smaller? Sorry if it's a silly question, I'm new to all this...

I *think* what you're looking for is the layout width. I've set the width to 800px (on the layout options page, top box). This limits the width of the whole page, including the header, to 800 pixels. The page bar isn't actually centered, it's just limited to the layout width. The theme will automatically center the narrower layout on the screen.
I hope that helps. Thanks for checking out my site!

I just want to second praise and joy about this magnificent theme. I've just been fiddling around with it for a few hours, but it looks a little different from the "usual" appearance, so if you're interested, take a look: http://www.MatthiasHeil.de

Howdy!
My name is Ken Thomas, and I'm in the process of setting up a website for a new consulting business. A friend suggested I try WordPress as my CMS, and I picked the Atahualpa theme because I liked the basic look, and I loved all of the configuration options. I had a pretty good idea of what I wanted the site to look like, and Atahualpa seemed like it would give me enough options to get the look I wanted.
Check it out here: http://t2c.us
And let me know what you think. This is only the 3rd website I've ever worked on, and the first time I've ever used a CMS. In spite of my inexperience, I think Atahualpa has let me achieve a professional look.
The only problem I've encountered is that I'd like to add a second 'Page' widget to the left sidebar, with Information pages in one widget, and Services pages in a second widget - and I haven't figured out how to do that yet. Any advice on that would be much appreciated.
Thanks for the great work on this theme. It's been a godsend for me.

After years using Gespaa 2 columns V2 it was time for an update. With my previous theme i couldn't use some of the new features of WP and i felt they would enhance my website.
So searching for theme's, trying a lot of them and finally decided to use Atahualpa 3... and wow, absolutely stunning! The flexibility is excellent, the options for customizing are amazing and the looks are exactly what i was looking for.
Now my weblog about watches looks much better and i can finally use widgets
Take a look at my weblog -> www.monochrome.nl
Thanx for the great theme!

Ooops. After posting that I figured out a solution on my own. Please disregard.

Very cool! How long did it take for you to customize the theme for your liking?
When I started off with the default theme template I was apprehensive and wondered how much I would be able to customize.
But was surprised with the flexiblity that Atahualpa Theme offers.
I have done a fair bit of customization and came up with ... http://www.tvistas.com/world-cup-2010-FIFA-Soccer/

It took quite a while to get the site together. I was converting from a static site, and wanted to keep the basic design. The home page was pretty simple. It took me a while to figure out how do the interior pages in ATA. I eventually realized I could do it if I hid the header completely, and used different sidebars than the front.
A lot of the time invested was not related to ATA issues. I would have had to resolve the same issues for any WP solution. I had to evaluate different text replacement technologies and work through the licensing issues to be able to legally use the font I wanted. I needed a way to show random images and text in the sidebar. I had to figure out how to get my contact form working the way I wanted. In addition to sending an email, it tracks the referrer information and optionally signs up people for my email list.
I also spent time trying to find a way to keep the same URL's for the pages that they had before. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way, so I did 301 redirects to the new names. Hopefully everything will work out in the SEs.

Hey @Brad -- you neglected to give us the URL to your site!

I'd be very interested in which "type/font systems" you looked at and what was your final choice. I took a quick look at TypeKit and just didn't grok how to implement it.

When WP'ing our site, I only had a couple of the "old" URL's that needed to be kept. Rather than re-directing, I left a version of the old page ( http://www.hatchtown.com/nostdir.html ) in place adding a notice re the site's upgrade and links to the homepage AND the new version of the linked page ( http://www.hatchtown.com/tools/misc-tools/nosting )
Cheers! Jim

Shepherd Jim,
I gave the URL a few posts ago; my last post was just answering a question from nirmal. The site is http://www.BradBrownMagic.com.
The font embedding I ended up using is Cufon ( http://cufon.shoqolate.com/). It's fast, relatively lightweight, works cross browser, and is easy to set up. Another option I considered was Flir. It has a WP plugin, so it's easy to implement, but the font I was using didn't look good with Flir. The other popular option is Sifr, but since I don't do flash development, it wasn't a viable option.
The big problem is licensing. With most fonts, including the one I wanted, you have to track down the owner and buy a special license to do it legally.
On the subject of redirects, leaving the old pages in place can lead to trouble in the search engines. The old pages will stay in the search engine. Search engines don't like pages with duplicate content, so there's a danger the old page could keep your new page from ranking well. Adding a permanent redirect is just the matter of adding a line or two to your .htaccess file. Visitors will be seamlessly sent to the correct address, and the search engines will know that the new page is the replacement for the old.
Thanks,
Brad
P.S. By the way, I just created yet another ATA based site, http://CincyFCM.org. I just can't stop myself!

As I've mentioned elsewhere in this forum, the Altahualpa theme ROCKS!
I've played with it for about a couple weeks. Using it for:
The Digital Tavern - http://blog.digitaltavern.com/
I've also used a more stock configuration for a friend's personal blog here
On The Digital Tavern, I'm still battling with the calendar as I can't seem to affect the font sizes... but this is a work in progress.

This is by far the best Wordpress Theme I have seen. Well not that I have seen I guess, alot of 3 column themes around but this Theme allows you sooo much control over your content which makes it the best theme. I am really glad Altahualpa was created. Having the example code in my opinion was Brilliant. Has bailed me out a few times. Thank you to everyone who worked and developed this Theme.

At the end of January 2009 I was confronted with building up a web page as fast as possible for a citizens' initiative. "As fast as possible" because there will be a referendum in my hometown at the end of March 2009. I have been working with PCs for more than 20 years now but I never did anything that had to do with building up web pages.
In the following evenings - I have a "normal" job and a family - I read a lot, learned to find a webhoster, looked at different CMS, decided to choose WordPress, looked at different themes and chose Atahualpa.
Within only ten days it was possible to achieve my aim. And a big role played (and plays) Atahualpa. Thank you very very much, Flynn! And also thank you for your unique support! I do hope that our citizens' initiative will have chances to assure people of attending the referendum and to vote for our ideas.
If anybody wants to have a look please see http://baederlandschaft-waldkirch.de. It's a german webpage. (If you're reading this posting after the end of March 2009 the link may not exist any longer.)

I've been using this theme to design a brand new site for a local political group - we are still waiting to port to a brand new domain, but you can check out what I've done so far at http://www.kill-with-power.com/nbtrc/

Excellent website, I have allot of questions in regards to how you did some of the activities on your website, BUT, not the key area that I need to address. I need people who register to PAY before having access to restricted areas - but you site is the best I have seen so far - have a look at www.seit.ie to see what you think
