I've pointed to my favicon using Atahualpa theme settings. On my wordpress home page, the favicon of my root directory shows up (not what I had uploaded to images/favicon/).

On all other pages and posts no favicon shows up.

Favicons are "interesting". I have had various issues with getting them to display. When I use the Atahualpa favicon function I make sure it has a unique name and I sometimes put my favicon.ico in the root of the site.

I changed the name, and added it to the main directory; no luck. I installed the "all in one favicon" plug-in, which didn't work either.

favicons have been troublesome ("interesting" is another way of putting it indeed ) for many years.

sometimes they only show up after several reloads, restarts or clearing browser caches..
and different browsers have different ways to handle them

maybe not much help .. but may help in the sense that its good to know this is a general issue and not necessarily an atahualpa issue
