Is it possible to put the search box on the menu bar (instead of putting it on the header)?

I'd like to add a concise search box in my menu that doesn't change the existing menu bar height, and has the word "Search" inside the search box to save space. How do I accomplish this? (please spell this out for me) :)

Here is a patch file to allow a search box in the menubar.
