[SOLVED] New widget areas can't be deleted

ATA 3.4.4, Firefox and Safari, WP 2.8.4

I've removed the bfa_widget code I had added. I click the tick boxes for ad1, ad2, ad3, and I get the green text confirming deletion. But they are still there in the widgets admin area and also still there in the Add new widget area admin.

did you do it in that order ie: Delete the code, then click the tick boxes for ad1, ad2, ad3 and press the 'Delete Checked Widget Areas'?

I just ran thru this scenario and the areas are deleted for me.

Yes, exactly that sequence.

is there anything on the page showing the issue or is this just in the backend?
Did you have any new widgets before upgrading to 344?

This was a clean, fresh installation of WP and the theme, on Hostgator, using Fantastico.

I decided to put the whole thing in the root after all, so I uninstalled everything and reinstalled, and now the add/delete new widget area function is......functioning! I don't know what the problem was before. At the moment, no plugins at all. I'll report if there are problems once I do load some plugins.

I did a little digging on the wordpress support forums and users of thesis are having this porblem also. A solution given is
Quote:

go to WP Dashboard-Widgets, click on "Screen Options" in the upper right-hand corner, and select "Accessibility Mode" from the box that drops down.
This allows you to edit the plugin and decide where it should be, not as easy as drag and drop, but there may be an hidden bug with the drag and drop.

Thanks. I tried that. Didn't work.

And it's odd that the widget issue disappears when using the default theme.

It seems that if you have a multi sidebar theme and switch to a theme with less sidebars, the widgets in the 'no longer used' sidebars are being marked inactive. I've posted a WP thread asking about this, ie design feature or bug. see http://wordpress.org/support/topic/3...1#post-1243282 if you want to follow it

I am also having this issue. It's the "new widget areas" that were created that cannot be deleted, not the plugins within the widget.

I am not sure that it is just an Atahualpa problem because I have one that was created with another plugin that I cannot get rid of.

I'm using wordpress 2.84 and Atahualpa 3.44.

did you create a new widget area prior to upgradng to 3.4.4?

Suzie Oct 16, 2009 01:00 PM

Yes I did. I couldn't delete it then, and was hoping that with the upgrade I would be able to.
