Turn off comments for posts

I have been looking for an option to turn off comments for posts in one of my sites. I have not found it in WordPress, and to my knowledge it is not in Atahualpa as well. Couldn't find a plugin either.

Am I the only one? Am I overlooking something? Or is there an easy way to do this? Would be nice if I don't need to go into the source code, because this gives headaches at updates.

By the way: just to be sure I set all options under "discussion" on the Settings page to off, which includes the "Allow people to post comments on new articles" option. But still, the "Leave a reply" form is shown on all of my posts.

In the WP discussion settings you should set it to by default not allow comments. If that was set to on at some point you will have to edit the posts to not allow comments individually or in bulk using the menu.

Thanks for your answer. I thought that I had looked everywhere in Wordpress. Also, I found nothing interesting on Google regarding this.

I had "Allow people to post comments on new articles" off, but of course, as you pointed out, this only applies to new posts.

Using the bulk edit on posts allowed me to set comments of on some older posts. Never had to use this bulk edit feature before, so I wasn't aware of that. I only found out that it could not be done on an individual post and stopped there.

It is now working as I intended. Thanks a lot.

This only goes to show what a great resource this forum is. A big "thank you" to the moderators that always come up with quick and good answers!

I guess I'll have to think of you as well once I have my paypal account this summer. :)
