Is there a way to increase the speed at which the page and cat bars animate?

Not without getting into the code but it looks like your animation is not even on.

no I turned it off because it's a bit too slow IMO

Actually, I just tried it again, the animated menu doesn't work when the page menu [menu 1] is right aligned. Did I read this had been fixed in this version?

If you add animation %page-right cannot be implemented. Also the WP 3 menu system does not allow animation.
