Fun with fading header images

I didn't want an overly "busy" header change. I played a bit with Photoshop and took my basic header photo of a lighthouse near here and applied some artistic filters. Then I added the 2 new ones to the header images folder and chose to have them rotate with Javascript, and to fade in and out. I think the effect is quite nice, very subtle. You have to really look hard to notice the difference between the watercolor and the smudged ones.

Have a look: http://aghca.org/

(I may play with other effects later, so this might look different by the time you see it.)

It works fine in Safari, Chrome and Firefox on a Mac. If you see problems with other browsers or platforms, please let me know here.

I should add that I'm using Wordpress 3.0 and Atahualpa 3.5.3 on this site. It's wonderful to have the fading effect built-in as an option, no fancy JS coding required by the user.

How did you make it fade? I have several images I want to rotate, but I want it to fade between the images.

I used the Header Image options in the theme options. Atahualpa 3.5.3, Wordpress 3.0.

See my settings here: http://img2.pict.com/e4/c7/8e/3831919/0/1279905550.jpg

Make sure you have all of the images you want to work with in the same /images/header folder.

Our posts must have crossed in cyberspace. Thanks for you post and reply.

Do you know if there is any way to turn off the header image in some pages? So it appears in the home page, but not in other subsequent pages.
