Static Page, need posts under this

I found out how to make a Page a "static page" so it remains the home/opening page in the blog, step one. I am unable to have the Posts appear under this. What do I need to do?

I even found this @ http://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page but I get lost when it mentions permalinks and does not show what I should do.

I'm unclear as to what you want to do - a static page with the posts??
If you want a blog page and a static landing page, create two pages, call one 'landing' and the other 'myblog'. Then at the wordpress dashboard->settings->reading->Front page displays - select 'A static page (select below)' and make the frontpage 'landing' and posts page 'myblog'.

Now you have a static page and a blog page (you can call them whatever you want - they don't have to be landing and myblog)

Is this what you are looking for?

One solution to your problem could be to create a static page and include the anchor for the bloginblog plugin to add the posts you want included.

Yes I want a static page then the "Post" to appear under that.
Like this web site has @ http://www.tomguilmette.com/wp/

If you look at the source, you will find out that this is a static page where he is updating the page with information and each section is set in a block quote.

You could also have a sticky post (always is at the top) followed by your regular posts. You could style the sticky different than the rest of the posts.

I will try the sticky method. Sorry not code savy, it is all Greek to me.

An alternate solution similar to the sticky is to use the Blog Introduction plugin.

http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/blog-introduction/

It works fine with Atahualpa.

I downloaded that plugin but am having some problems.

Actually, on one of my blogs I have (www.blue-egg-farm.com) it's working fine, but on another (http://blog.small-house-building.com) it's not. The problem with the second one is that the intended content is displaying in the left hand column under "Recent Posts".

I've tried uninstalling and deleting the plugin, then reinstalling, but no luck. The only difference between these blogs is the first is a fresh installation of 3.4.3, while the second is an upgrade to 3.4.3 (there are some style differences, but I don't think that's the issue).

I'll leave the problem up at http://blog.small-house-building.com for you to take a look and see what I'm talking about. I'd very much like to have that intro content in the center column, at the top, before all the posts.

TIA!!!

Anne
p.s. I'm dense!! How do you do that sticky post? I'm going under Posts > Add New and don't see anything.
Thank you!!!!!!!!

sticky post - Dashboard->Posts->edit->edit a post->Publish->Visability ->edit -. ceck the 'Stick this post to the front page' box

what intro content are you talking about?

measure2x Sep 28, 2009 08:08 PM

That content is currently in the left column here.

Ok, I added the same content as a "sticky post". Boy, that wasn't intuitive. Thanks for giving me those directions, juggledad! I guess I could just keep it as a sticky, but I wanted to figure out the other way with the Blog Introduction plugin.

I guess I'll just leave the sticky up since no one is responding to my problem of having a page's content show up in the left hand column........

I'm sorry... I haven't checked in recently. I may be able to help with that plugin if you still want to try it.

Hey nycgadgetgirl,

Well, that sticky seemed to work ok. I think I'll stick with that (no pun intended). Thanks for the offer, though!

It's just funny that the plugin works with one site but not the other.

nycgadgetgirl Oct 3, 2009 07:46 PM

lol. ok, glad the sticky worked out. :)

I have a similar problem. In Atahualpa the Blog Introduction ends up inthe left sidebar instead of in the centre.
nycgadgetgirl, you seem to have made this work. Any leads on how to solve it?
Otherwise it works just fine - only in the wrong place ;)

nycgadgetgirl Oct 9, 2009 11:38 AM

Possibly... link?

Actually I managed to get it to work. I had to move all widgets from left sidebar to right inner sidebar, and then activate right inner and deactivate left sidebar.

Now it works, and now I will read on the plugin homepage to style it in a better way.
