Aki - I just imported your settings in 3.5.3 and set a post to have a featured image. I then switch to 3.6.4 and the excerpt and featured image are there

Try disabling all your plugins

Hi Juggledad, Larry & Flynn,
I haven't run into the Suhosin problem yet... But is this something that can or will be addressed in ATA 3.6.5 and up? i.e no further need to whitelist bfa?

Just curious whether the "fix" is something I will need to address proactively from now on.

Thanks!
Ken

Let's just say that is the goal but I am not sure as to an ETA.

This issue came about because WordPress no longer allows the use of the php 'eval()' function. This is how Flynn was able to allow the use of php in so many areas of the theme (like the new widget areas). The theme was switched to use 'stream wrappers'.

Now this in itself is not a problem with php, however (don't you just hate however's) some sites have decided to use an add on with php, called 'Suhosin'

Quote:

Suhosin is an advanced protection system for PHP installations. It was designed to protect servers and users from known and unknown flaws in PHP applications and the PHP core.
Suhosin has over 100 options for tightening security (I wonder if you could do anything if you turned them all on at the highest level) and Atahualpa has no control over if it is installed or what options are turned on.

So it seems to me there are four possibilities for this issue. (1) Users have to whitelist the bfa code, (2) WordPress allows the use of the 'eval()' function (it's allowed in plugins), (3) Flynn figures out some other way to execute the php in the options (not sure if there is another way) or (4) the theme gets crippled by removing the ability to add php to the options.

as an aside. I have a site on WestHost.com and never ran into the Suhosin issue. A customer asked me to create a site for them, so I got the m the domain and space and low and behold, I ran into the Suhosin issue. They were on a different server at the same host. The two machines were configured differently. So how do you deal with an issue like this?

Quick question about updating from 3.5.3 to 3.6.4:

No suhosin...no problem. But, what else can I expect to have to do manually after the upgrade? Will I have to move/re-establish graphics such as the header logo etc?

Anything else?

Thanks.

Graphics... yes and if you upgrade using the recommended manual method you may have to update some paths to reflect the new theme folder.

Hey Guys!

So! I have to admit I'm doubly behind -- I'm running ATA 3.5.1 on WordPress 3.0.4.

I've just auto-updated all the plugins that needed updating and done a DB backup.

What's the thinking: should I jump up to WP 3.1 and then update to Atahualpa 3.6.4

...or vice versa?

Did I see where doing the auto-update for ATA is not recommended? I'm not sure I remember how to manually install a theme. :p :(

Doesn't matter which you do first, just do a database backup at each step and watch or the suhosin issue (see http://forum.bytesforall.com/showthread.php?t=12262)

Today, March 19 I upgraded my Atahualpa theme version to 3.6.4 automatically. Everything appeared to go normally. Problem is when viewing my blog there is now a sample text widget superimposed with the other widgets in my right sidebar. I am using WP version 3.1. My browser is IE 8 and my op sys is Windows XP. All the other widgets in the right sidebar are accessible (i.e. clicking on links in them takes desired path) except for two whose connectivity seems to be lost. What can I do to correct this problem? My site (www.vibranthealthworld.com) looks horrible. All previous Atahualpa upgrades done automatically worked flawlessly, and this is the first version I've ever had problems with during upgrade. I would appreciate any ideas a solution.

lmilesw Mar 19, 2011 02:27 PM

The first thing would be to turn off the right inner sidebar and see what happens. The right inner sidebar with default widgets was implimented with 3.6.4 to show capabilities. Also check the sidebar widths. These changes would all be done in ATO>Style & configure Sidebars.

Thanks so much. Turning off the right inner sidebar did the trick and my blog now appears correctly in Atahualpa 3.6.4 . I'm gonna donate right now. You have been a great help.

Is 3.6.4 the most stable version. I am on 3.5.3 and is very happy with it. I don't want to update and see a lot of issues coming up because I am technically retarded to fix them on my own. Which one do you recommend in that case. 3.6.0 or 3.6.4 ?.

juggledad Mar 20, 2011 05:02 AM

If you are going to upgrade, I would go to 3.6.4 and apply the BUGFIX's. (found in the 'new version & updates' forum)

I would do a manual install into a folder called atahualpa364 so you could switch back if there is an issue (see the FAQ/updating' forum for directions)
