Using FullCalendar (jQuery), Google calendar & Atahualpa

In my never-ending search for an event calendar that pleases my client, I read a case study ("One BIG Wordpress Site") in which the developer put a Google Calendar on a site by using a jQuery plugin called FullCalendar:
Quote:

FullCalendar is a jQuery plugin that provides a full-sized, drag & drop calendar like the one below. It uses AJAX to fetch events on-the-fly for each month and is easily configured to use your own feed format (an extension is provided for Google Calendar). It is visually customizable and exposes hooks for user-triggered events (like clicking or dragging an event).
I would love to try it, but I'm not sure how to use a jQuery plugin with Atahualpa. Where do I put the plugin? Is jQuery already loaded with Atahualpa? Do I have any idea what I'm talking about??!!

Not much. Any info on using a jQuery script with Wordpress in general and ATA in particular would be very appreciated.
Thanks.

JQuery is built into Wordpress, I think. I successfully got a Google calendar to work on a WP site with Atahualpa, simply using the embeddable calendar helper found deep in the settings of the Google calendar. Works like a charm. You don't really need a plugin for it, but I'm going to check out that plugin anyway. Maybe it lets you manage the calendar from within the WP site instead of within the Gcal itself.

EDIT: Well, I just tried to install Full Calendar, but got an error: The plugin does not have a valid header.

But your post made me want to revisit Google Calendar as the solution to my own calendar search.

I got the same error message when I tried to install FullCalendar.
When I first used GoogleCalendar, my client didn't like the look of it and didn't like Google Calendar's UI. I can't do anything about the latter, but perhaps I can style the embedded calendar differently now that I'm more familiar with WP and ATA.

BTW, I've been following your newspaper site's development with great interest over the past six months. It's very cool!

Thanks for the kudos! The Gazette is always a work in progress, as are most sites, I guess.

I don't know if you can style a GCal, beyond what you can do when configuring it on the Google site. It's being fed from there, after all. But who knows?

Aside from the fact it's not PHP, the Brown Bear Software Calcium calendar is really very functional, and since I haven't found anything better yet, I'll stick with it for the Gazette for now. http://www.larchmontgazette.com/community-calendar/ One thing I like about its interface as compared to GCal is that you can have a lot of information about an event right there in the cell, then click through to see more. GCal lets you have just a word or two.
