Made a WP Menu but it won't show

Inherited this site from another webworker. Now uses the latest Atahualpa in the latest WordPress. She made the menu in the left sidebar. We want a simpler menu, with 1-level drop-downs. Made one with WordPress's built-in Menu, following the directions in WordPress Menu User Guide in the Codex. The last step is to add the menu to a Theme Location. I added it to Menu 1. But it doesn't show.

I'm wondering if the previous webworker may have turned off menus in some spot I haven't been able to find. Or if I've just missed a key step. I searched and looked at other threads without finding anything comparable.

menu's in the sidebar are controled by the 'Custom Menu' widget
menu's in the header are controled by the 'Theme location' in the menu options AND having %pages (menu location 1) or %cat (menu location 2) in the ato->Style & edit HEADER AREA->Configure Header Area option

Bingo! The only problem was having to wait almost 60 seconds before getting the answer... ; )

The menu works fine, but doesn't look so great. The Menu User Guide doesn't include styling it. Do I style it in WordPress Menu, or in Atahualpa, or perhaps both?

If that question isn't relevant here, no reply needed. I'll look elsewhere.

The header menu is styled in the theme options.

learn how to use the FireBug extension of FireFox, you can examine an area of teh page, see it's CSS and make changes on the fly to see what they will look like.
