How to set the date in the byline

I'm posting old publications for a colleague at www.masongaffney.org/blog. As I enter publications, I click Edit after Published on, to enter the original date of publication. The original date appears correctly in the permalink, but often the byline and Published on still show the posting date. Edit won't let me change the date.

What am I doing wrong?

What is the code you have in the byline and what role do you for your user account. If you are not an administrator you may not be able to change the posting date.

I am the administrator on the account. The problem only seems to happen when I link the post to a pdf. Otherwise, the date setting works fine.

Thanks.

When you say "link the post to a pdf" are you saying you have a link in the post or you are using a plugin to redirect the post to the pdf?

In the text box of a post, I click on the Insert/edit embedded media button. (Looks like a film strip). Then I select Shockwave. Under file/URL, I past in the URL of the pdf article (which is on the same website). Under dimensions, I put in (800x1200) for the size and hit Update. That way the pdf appears in a window in the post.

For example, see http://masongaffney.org/blog/index.php/1961/10/. The date is correct in the URL, but the byline shows the posting date of May 31st, 2010.

Any help you can give is much appreciated.

the byline date is the date the post is published. If you want this date changed, you must go to th epost and edit the published date. Note, doing this will alter it order in the blog.

For example if I posted 'A' yesterday it will have a date of 5/30/2010. If I post 'B' today it will have a date of 5/31/2010 and in the blog the order will be
'B'
'A'
if I edit post 'B' and change it's pblished date to 5/15/2010 the order in the blog will be
'A'
'B'
what is your permalink set to?

Also there is a trailing % on the page the link you posted goes to and the flash PDF is not showing for me. Why not just have a link to a PDF?

Thanks.

The permalink dates come out correct. But I can't seem to edit the post dates to equal the permalink dates. The edits don't take.

As for the pdf's, I'm using the procedure recommended at http://www.lancelhoff.com/embed-pdf-in-wordpress/. It seems to work fine--except that when I've embedded a pdf, I can't edit the post dates.

Is there another better way to link in pdf's? The lancelhoff procedure seems to work fine for me.

Thanks

My permalinks are set on month and name. Thanks.

are you using
HTML Code:

%date('F j, Y, g:i a')%
or
HTML Code:

%date-modified('F jS, Y')%
in the byline?
