Wordpress sites blocked by work, company, or government offices

I'm looking for ideas on how to restructor or code a site so it is not viewed as a "blog" and blocked by work, company, or government offices.

For example, if you use Atahualpa for a CMS for a resturaunt, you would want employees of company offices to be able to pull it up, call, make reservations, etc. but at the moment, the site is blocked because the office blocks all blogs.

I'm a newbie at Wordpress, Atahualpa, and any advanced coding, so if you share an idea, please tell me step by step.

Thanks
Tracy

you will have to find out what/how they are blocking 'blogs'

Thanks,

I'm copying in what they said below (sorry it's so long).

Is the key point that the site was not rated? How do I get a site rated?

Also, I found out that not all blogs are blocked.
For example:
this site: http://ynotcostarica.com/ (not atahualpa theme) opens up fine
but my site: http://www.latinamericafocus.com/ is blocked

The site in the message is a new one with basic WP installation, Atahualpa theme, & only Askimet, Yoast Seo, and jetpack plugins activated. I have some other plugins installed.

Suggested category: Unrated
Your comments: Please tell me what about the site is causing the block. The web page designer wants it to be viewable from government computers, and can change the design/format if the specific reasons for causing a block are known.

Thanks for submitting http://www.cevichitos.com/ to the Blue Coat WebFilter team for review. We appreciate the opportunity to provide the results of our analysis with you.

Based on your recommendation and after careful evaluation of the Web content submitted, a Web Content Analyst has categorized this URL as Restaurants/Dining/Food <http://sitereview.cwfservice.net/catdesc.jsp?catnum=64&catmap=0&locale=> .

Restaurants and similar sites fall under our Restaurants/Dining/Food category. This site was probably blocked before because it was not rated. If sites are blocked, you need to contact your local IT help desk.

Blue Coat does not select which category or categories are blocked or allowed. This decision is controlled by policy defined by our customers. If you feel that a certain category or site should be either blocked or allowed, click here <http://sitereview.cwfservice.net/sitereview.jsp?policy=view> to find out more about how to change your Internet access policy.

If you have any other questions that should be directed to the Blue Coat WebFilter team, feel free to reply to this message.

Any ideas?

Thank you for being so helpful,

This has nothing to do with Atahualpa or WordPress. You need to follow the directions in the message you got and contact the IT group to see if you can get the site unblocked.

Thank you for trying to help.

I undestand that each company might have its own settings on restricting sites, and that employees can contact their IT branches to lift the ban to view a particular website.

What I was hoping for was a broader solution or explanation as to why a site might be categorized in one way or another and thus fall in the "blocked" or "accessible" category.

The best example I can give is the two similar travel sites:
- my friend's site: http://ynotcostarica.com/ (K2 theme) opens up fine
- but my site: http://www.latinamericafocus.com/ (atahualpa theme) is blocked

Why would a company block mine and not the other? I'm not trying to solve access for one company's employees but all company employees accross the internet.

I understand that you are saying it is not the WP or theme coding, so I will try to learn more how blocking filters work. If you ever hear of any tips, pls post to this thread. (I'll do the same if I figure it out.)

Thanks again,
Tracy

Actually, I changed http://www.cevichitos.com/ to the K2 theme and it opens up for the employee, so there must be something in the theme that the company flags as "blog site."

I'm not saying Atahualpa is a bad theme, only that some companies are flagging or using something in the coding to filter it out of their system.

I realize that we'd probably need someone familiar with company filters to figure this out, but I may look at other themes because I don't want my sites blocked anywhere (if possible).

It's tough for me because I really like the Atahualpa theme and would prefer to just eliminate whatever it is the filter is using...

Without knowing what is the criteria they use, there is no way to give you any advice. Sorry
