Help understanding instruction on widget page

Greetings,

I don't know php and having trouble understanding the instructions for adding additional widgets. I'd like to add a 150x1000 widget area along the footer for a horizontal facebook badge.

It looks like I need to insert some php into the footer area but am not sure where in the footer and how to customize the php. It also looks like doing this will add an option int he widget menu in WP but not sure how to activate this.

Can you help?

Also, is it possible to get an email notification on this forum when there is a response. This forum format is difficult to grasp.

Thanks!
Tim

The best way to learn this is add the simplest code to one of the areas listed. In your case I would add it to the Style & edit Footer area. The width of the widget area is 100% by default. I generally tweak the size of the widget I put in it with CSS if I need to.

I don't understand a lot of php either but in the case of widget areas all you really need to to is cut and paste for the simplest code. The more complex code is pretty logical if you look at it and compare to the examples on the Add New Widget Areas page.
