Post categories listed in Page menu

Hello All,

We're using Atahualpa 3.4.4 and Wordpress 2.8.6 for our organisations new website.
At the moment I am just using the page bar which is fine. I've set it to display a static page for the front page and the posts to appear on a 'news' page.

What I would like is to somehow have certain categories of posts appear without having to turn on the category bar.

So for example, under the news item in the page menu there could be a list of categories such as Events, Minutes, Opinion etc

The page bar might be something like:
Code:

HOME  |  NEWS  |  ABOUT  |  BECOME A MEMBER  |  CONTACT US
      EVENTS
      MINUTES
      OPINION

Where Events, Minutes and Opinion are categories of posts.

It would seem to be an easier way of somehow displaying categories of posts on pages and thus I wouldn't need to edit the theme but I haven't seemed to find a good way of doing that.

Also, another possibility is of having 'Events' in the main bar. Again, this would be relatively easy if I could create a page with had the posts from the single category.

Eg:
Code:

HOME  |  NEWS  |  EVENTS  |  ABOUT  |  BECOME A MEMBER  |  CONTACT US
Any ideas on how we can do this?

Cheers

If you want a page that just lists the posts of a single category, you can use the 'Category Page' plugin with the change from this thread: http://forum.bytesforall.com/showthread.php?t=2963

create your page and use the shortcode method ie insert [catlist=nn] where 'nn' is your category id
