Categories and sub categories

How do I display my parent categories with the sub categories without the subcategories being directly under the category? To look something like this:

Category
sub category
sub category
Category
sub category

My example didn't show up correctly...let me try this again:

There's an option "Show hierarchy" inside the category widget which you can uncheck

What version of AAtahualpa, WP and PHP?
What's the URL of an example?

Are you using the default 'Categories' widget?
What options did you check off?
What are your results?
have you made any CSS Inserts?
