Looking for best way to display a slideshow of posts

Hi! I am looking for the best way to display a rotating slideshow of posts, ideally in the header, or as the first element of the main column on the landing page.

What I want to do is to draw attention to a small number of posts (3-5), thats why it should be rotating. It should display an image of the post and the headline + link.

Im running Atahualpa and Im basically open for every solution, but the less convoluted, the better. What do you think? Is there a plugin, can this be done with a widget placed in a custom widget area, do I need custom coding or how to go about it?

The developer version of Soliloquy with the "Featured Posts" addon would do that.

Wow thats quite a piece of software. Id wish there were some easier way, though. Soliloquy seems a bit overwhelming at first glance.

Currently I am thinking of using a plugin like "Random Posts in Category". Then I could maybe use Javascript or CSS to rotate the post. But it wouldnt be very impressive optically.

But basically I had hoped there would be a plugin doing exactly this. You see it quite often on many websites, I think.

You know, 99$ a year is one thing; such a slideshow would be great, I can imagine paying this. On the other hand, if have to install a slideshow framework + addon für doing what I want, and if ever either the framework itself or just the addon stops being developed, I can forget it as a solution.

I think such a feature would be great as a paid addon for the new Atahualpa version if it ever comes about; I am looking forward to it and Im willing to pay for additional features. In the meantime, Id rather put something together myself, I think.
