[SOLVED] How do I configure Image caption to use Alt instead of Title entry?

I'm looking to replace an outdated theme (Freshy 2) with Atahualpa, but my NextGen Gallery image captions are using the title entry for images in a gallery as the basis for the caption, rather than the Alt entry. The old theme uses the (brief) Alt entry, wrapped in a div, and the text does not exceed the width of the image. Atahualpa on the other hand wraps the (much longer) Title entry in a span, and the text extends the entire width of the page container.

Using the Theme Test Drive plugin I'm able to view the live (with Freshy 2) site when not logged in concurrently with being logged in in another browser, viewing the development site (with Atahualpa enabled). So the problem is presumably being caused by Atahualpa interfering with the NextGen gallery. I have WordPress 3.5.1, Atahualpa 3.7.11 and 1.9.12 NextGen Gallery installed.

Are there configuration settings for Atahualpa that can help me here? Or is this a bug?

you should look at some of the nextgen plugins that switch that info around

Thanks a lot for the prompt response - and you're absolutely right. I'd forgotten that NextGen gallery requires that files that modify the appearance of the caption are placed in a directory under the live theme. Perhaps not the best location (why not the uploads directory). In any event, atahualpa is blameless. Sorry for taking up your time.
