Home Page sticky, then excerpts - no body of excerpt, just title is showing

I have the home page set to show a post set to "sticky". That works.

Next should be five recent posts, showing only excerpts. i have it set to show the first post as full, then all excerpts.

Those excerpts are showing the title only, not the body. I created 5 test posts and all titles showed, no body (excerpt).

I have set it show the first 55 words (and tried more and less), I have entered a manual excerpt (and that didn't help) and many other combos. It doesn't show the excerpt no matter what I do - just the title of the post that should be an excerpt.

I turned off the sticky and the newest post shows as a full post, then the next post (which was the sticky) shows only the title.

Since the site is live, I have it set back to showing the first as sticky and have no other posts (deleted the test posts). I can set it all back up if someone wants to look at it, but I was hoping it's something obvious I am missing.

Any ideas

first off, do you have the 367 bugfix's applied? (New Versions & Updates forum)

Yes, I did that on May 18th to fix another issue.

Have you disabled all plugins to see if there is a conflict?
