Getting Header to automatically resize

Hello,

I was wondering how I could get the header (and footer) to automatically detect the user's screen resolution, and resize according to that screen width. I saw another thread that uses PHP, but I've absolutely no knowledge of that, so I got lost after a few linees of reading... ><

Right now what I have is:

As you can see, it might not be so bad if the image is simply cut off, but it makes a scrollbar across the screen, which I'd like to eliminate. How can this be done?

If you are using this as a header image in Atahualpa it will just cut it off or you can just set a fixed width of no more than 1000px and size the image accordingly.
