[SOLVED] Remove the default widgets from the sidebars

I suspect a lot of newcomers will have this same problem...

I wanted to remove the "Meta" widget from the right sidebar. But on the WordPress Appearance/Widgets page there are NO widgets assigned to the right or left sidebars. And none of the Atahualpa option pages allow you to add or remove widgets.

Here's the explanation. If no widgets are explicitly assigned to a sidebar, WordPress gives you the defaults:
  • Categories and Archives in the left sidebar
  • Recent Posts, Blogroll, and Meta in the right sidebar
To avoid showing these default choices, just drag the ones that you DO want into the appropriate area. For example, to get rid of Blogroll and Meta, drag Recent Posts into the right sidebar area.

Here's hoping this saves someone time/energy/temptation to hack.
