How to make several posts appear in multi-post pages

How do I make several posts appear on multipost pages such as category pages?

As of the moment I only display one full post in the home page. However, at this setting, only one excerpt appears in the category page.

what do you have set at dashboard->settings-.Reading->Blog pages show at most __posts ?

Right now I have it at 1.

What happens is when I set it at 1, only one excerpt appears in the specific category page. When I set it to 3, e excerpts appear on a specific category page even though there are more than 10 posts in that category.

What I want to do is show about 1 to 3 full posts in the home page but show 10 excerpts in the category page. Is that possible for the following blogs? Hope you can help me!
