Pls help with - How to get a header image to rotate every 'N' seconds (sticky)

The sticky at the top of the page is locked, so I can't ask questions there. I am trying to do the automatic rotating headers on my site because I thought that this would just be beyond awesome, but despite my very careful following of the very explicit directions (thank you, btw, for that - the directions were very clear and very easy to follow!) I am getting an error message on my site.

Now when I load my blog in Firefox, I get a message across the top of my blog (see attached screenshot with message circled). When I load my blog in IE, my header simply doesn't load at all, and at the bottom left of the screen, it says, "Done, but with errors on page." Obviously, something didn't go right. :o

Do you have any suggestions of what I did wrong or what I might try? Like I said, I tried to following the directions down to the letter, so I'm not sure what I did wrong.

Many thanks!

Arugh,
between getting it to work and publishing it I miss type one line
change
blog_address = 'http://www.nonfictionbookreview.com/'
to
blog_address = 'url(http://www.nonfictionbookreview.com/'

Thanks for the quick response!

Okay, you have it as

blog_address = 'url(http://www.nonfictionbookreview.com/'

There is no closing bracket ) in there. Is that right? It looks wrong to me, but then again, I am definitely NOT a coding specialist, LOL!

I went ahead and tried it anyway, and now my blog looks fine in IE (no error messages and my header shows up) but in Firefox, the strip of code still shows at the top. I even cleared my cache to make sure that when the page reloaded, it would pull a brand-new copy of my site, and still has the code in there.

Any ideas?

PPS Also forgot to say: The header does not actually rotate either. Sorry, almost forgot the most important point of all of this! LOL!

Hi, I 'm looking it in safari and firefox and it loops, but it will only do it every 50 seconds (50000 miliseconds =50 seconds) change it to 5000 and try it

HavaLyon Apr 26, 2009 07:23 PM

You're right - I did mean to put it at 5,000 milliseconds, not 50,000 milliseconds, so thank you for pointing that out. I changed it. :) Unfortunately, it still doesn't rotate in Firefox or IE. I just looked again at IE, and in the bottom left corner, it does still have an error - "Error on page." Which is different from what it said before - I'm not sure if this is progress or not! LOL! And the message still shows up in at the top of Firefox.

Any other suggestions?

you missed a line of code, the very first one - the

<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">

try adding that and see if it works

HavaLyon Apr 27, 2009 08:16 AM

Wow! LOL! I wonder how I did that. I have the whole thing in Notepad where I worked on it - when I copied and pasted it over, I must have missed it somehow. :confused: That was pretty dumb of me. :o

So the great news is, it works in IE. The headers rotate through. There is no error message in the lower left hand corner. This is very exciting stuff!

The bad news is, it still doesn't work in Firefox. The string of code still shows at the top of the screen (onload="runBGSlideShow()">) and the headers do not rotate through. Since I use only Firefox, and I did this primarily for me (because it amuses and entertains me) this is a problem. ;) I only use IE to test out changes I make to my site since most people use IE and I want to make sure that it works for them.

But! I just thought of something. Atahualpa doesn't seem to like Firefox - when I make a change to my blog, I have to go see it in IE to see if it changed or not. It will eventually change in FF, but it never does right away. I did clear my cache and then refresh the page in FF, but just in case, I am going to reboot my computer and then see what happens. I'll be back in just a minute.

And it works!!!!!!!! Yay!!!!!!!! :D :D Just looked at it in FF, and the code is gone at the top of the screen, and the header rotates. Most excellent. :)

Thank you very much for your time!! I really appreciate it.
