Hey EdZee! Mighty fine site! I visited especially to see how the forum was set up and was VERY SURPRISED at how smoothly it's integrated into the Ata theme! Nice job! :)

She also needs some very simple e-commerce since she just has a few products and doesn't have need for a merchant account yet. I am thinking simple PayPal buttons might be the way to go, judging from what I have read here.

I like your implementation of Ata a lot! My only suggestion would be to have an "About" page where you introduce yourselves. I find I always enjoy a site more, and feel more "loyalty" to it, if the author has a face.

re the e-commerce: I see you've already discovered the new eCommerce & Atahualpa Forum area that Flynn's given us.

The PayPal buttons really are a good way to get into the whole "shopping cart thing" in a small way. The PP buttons will be especially appropriate for your neighbor if he or she isn't too interested in doing much "under the cover" work in the Dashboard and some shopping cart plugin.

Thanks, Jim! I appreciated your blog comments, too. I did that one quite a while ago before I got on this forum. My new project takes advantages of more bells and whistles - it's looking really cool and I can't wait to share it!

At another boardie's suggestion I installed the Simple PP plugin and the post snippets. I think today is going to be the day I try to break it. I'll see everyone over on the e-commerce part of the forum later. ;)

Our Site

Atahualpa is simply awesome, no question.

We've had virtually no experience in building a site or blog, but the vast amount of user-friendly options and explanations available in the theme made the job very workable for beginners like us. We can confidently say that we wouldn't have been able to do a fraction of the things we were able to do with Atahualpa if we were using another theme, given our limited prior knowledge.

Thanks to Flynn and everyone else for their support.

Cheers.
Hi, I really like your site.

Could you tell me how you did the menus?

I've tried following steps on the forums and nothing seems to work for me.

The Page & Category menus are the only things I don't like and can't figure out how to change correctly in Atahualpa.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Thanks, that was slideshow pro from http://slideshowpro.net/

I use the Lightroom version as the standalone version is a little long winded to set up - too many steps. With the LR version you can store your different slideshow types as presets so it's pretty easy to set up.

Atahualpa is definitely one of the very best theme out there.

I'm sure I haven't done anything too advanced on my movie blog but here it is: http://www.anomalousmaterial.com/movies/

I love this theme, I'm not an experienced designer but Atahualpa allows me to be creative, my site is family oriented and is mostly photo galleries. wilfredof.com

I want to add my thanks to those of everyone else. I really didn't want to build a blog - but a static website to promote my novel. Atahualpa was easy to customize and I just hid the blog page. You can see the result at:
http://www.ratemeRED.com

although looking at some fo the great work in this forum has inspired me to tinker with it a little

Thanks for the compliment, Jim! I have to inform that I changed our forum to Simple:Press 4.1.2 because it has more features (like Private Message) and security that our members requested. You can see our new integrated forum at http://www.icafepilipinas.org/index.php/forum/.

I too have really found this theme to be the best and most versatile theme I have seen. Here are a few of mine so far. I am working on 4 more. Each one I am finding more and more I can do with it.

Now my weblog about watches looks much better and i can finally use widgets :)

Thanx for the great theme!

Amazing!

What a good and nice site! I liked it a lot, very easy to read, I love the "coloring" :) Maybe some day I can make something like that.

Neat theme with so many ways to make it look that I am continuously tweaking it. Feedback would be nice as I am going for a simple layout, but I dont want it to be too simple...any comments (positive or constructive)?

Well, I have two sites with this theme:
kopiko.ca
and
thevagabondgeek.com (this one might be moving to Drupal soon :(

But the real news is that I featured this theme in this week's episode of my Podcast - check it out. I show off the theme about 1/2 way through. (You can get a higher resolution version through iTunes, just search teachmewp in the iTunes store)

I have probably spent 300+ hours in Atahualpa and Wordpress in the past 6 months), and for the first time in years, making websites is again fun! Check out these very different, very rich sites, all created using Atahualpa on top of Wordpress:

http://www.sunshinebicycle.com
http://www.centralparkice.com
http://www.drakemtb.com
http://www.wyro.org/audio-branding/ (under construction)
http://www.wyro.org/bestof2009/ (includes the fantastic Apture plugin - wow!

Flynn, thank you; you've given me a new lease on web building life. I thank you greatly (and Juggledad for all the amazing support). Be on the lookout for more donations coming your way!

Ata is a great theme. Have just about finished revising our church site, http://www.brewsterbaptistchurch.org/, which currently has 46 pages.

I think it's a good example of how a small business can use WP to build a web site, and use the blog-functionality to good advantage.

Just implemented another site with ATA--and made another little donation.

Originally I was planning on creating a custom template because the design is not "ATA-ish." I decided to see if ATA could do it, and it can. The site looks absolutely nothing like the default ATA look, but no editing of files was required to get the design I wanted. (I did have to make one small change to support referrer tracking and I needed a custom template for my contact form. However, no files were changed for the layout.)

The site is http://www.BradBrownMagic.com.

Thanks Flynn!

Hi, Brad. Love the site! You performed some real magic with it. :p

I love the way you used the negative number to place the right inner sidebar image overlapping the header image.

ChaseMann Jan 20, 2010 09:31 AM

I agree with Paulae. Great job customizing Brad!

nirmal Jan 20, 2010 04:15 PM

Very cool! How long did it take for you to customize the theme for your liking?
When I started off with the default theme template I was apprehensive and wondered how much I would be able to customize.
But was surprised with the flexiblity that Atahualpa Theme offers.
I have done a fair bit of customization and came up with ...http://www.tvistas.com/world-cup-2010-FIFA-Soccer/

It took quite a while to get the site together. I was converting from a static site, and wanted to keep the basic design. The home page was pretty simple. It took me a while to figure out how do the interior pages in ATA. I eventually realized I could do it if I hid the header completely, and used different sidebars than the front.

A lot of the time invested was not related to ATA issues. I would have had to resolve the same issues for any WP solution. I had to evaluate different text replacement technologies and work through the licensing issues to be able to legally use the font I wanted. I needed a way to show random images and text in the sidebar. I had to figure out how to get my contact form working the way I wanted. In addition to sending an email, it tracks the referrer information and optionally signs up people for my email list.

I also spent time trying to find a way to keep the same URL's for the pages that they had before. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a way, so I did 301 redirects to the new names. Hopefully everything will work out in the SEs.
