3.6.7 or 3.1.3 problem? Center Column in IE8

With both updates installed, the center column is no longer resizing photos (keeping the aspect ratio intact) using IE8. Instead, images are squeezed, creating a funhouse effect. Header images do not have the same problem.

Everything appears fine in IE9, Firefox, and Safari.

Anyone else notice this? Any ideas on the source of the problem?

There are three bug fixes for 3.6.7. Do you have a link to the site so we can see the issue?

I hadn't applied the third bug fix, but having just done so, the problem persists.

You can see the issue on any page (Front Page, either of the Masai Mara pages, etc.) where an image spans the full width of the center column. I don't know the monitor resolution at which the problem is first noticeable, but you can also see what it's doing (or not doing) by resizing your main window.

The way different browser handle CSS can be problematic. I am not certain but suspect that the height you have set for the image container may be part of this issue but I don't know of an alternative off the top of my head. I prefer static width sites for this reason. Static width also keeps menus from wrapping and other layout issues. Is there a reason why you don't want static width?

The idea is to have the most photo-centric travel site anywhere (taking advantage of bigger monitors and higher access speeds), and I want to be able to fill the screen of whomever visits - keeping in mind the creeping blend of internet and TV.

There were never any problems using IE8 as the browser in the past, so it seems this must have something to do with new BFA or WordPress versions.

Is there an obvious place to go at WordPress to raise the issue, or is it not likely their problem?

Try the different settings for IE Document Type In ATO>Style & Configure Layout. That is new and may be affecting something.

I tried them all and the "Emulate IE7" setting fixed the problem (and has so far not caused any new problems - though it is too soon to tell). Thanks.

Speaking of the voodoo of image resizing, and getting back to a very stale subject...

It still baffles me that the header image AREA can be resized horizontally with the rotate feature working, but can't be resized both horizontally and vertically with the rotate feature working.

Is this the sort of thing I could hire someone (i.e. you or Juggledad) to fix?

On the off chance that anyone else needs to deal with the "funhouse mirror" effect of squeezed images in IE8 after upgrading to 3.6.7.....

After discovering that "Emulate IE7" solved the problem, a few days later I installed W3 Total Cache and the squeeze problem came back. So, apparently two conditions are necessary for large images in the center container to display properly on smaller monitors using IE8:

1. The "IE Document Type" box on the ATO "Style and Configure Layout" page needs to be set to "Emulate IE7"

AND

2. You can't use W3 Total Cache

Anyone have a next favorite cache plugin to recommend?
