As a "WP person" I really enjoyed the footer "Acknowledgements" listing all the plugins you've used -- one thought is that you should really add back in Atahualpa or Bytes for All. Question: I will be checking, but is there a way not to have the WP-PluginsUsed 1.50 plugin NOT list your inactive plugins? ...really can't see the point... Question: But, seeing your inactive plugin list: Akismet?? I re-checked the Actives and can't see where you're providing protection against spam. Is turning off Akismet a temporary thing? The more I think I understand screen resolution and how it relates to browser window width, the confused'er it turns out I am. But, I noticed on your site was that the two narrow columns in the double column area "Featured articles on inside pages" down low in your center column started to overlap if I narrowed the browser window much below 1200 pixels. Note sure, but you might want to check out Atahualpa's ability to limit the narrowing of the layout by setting a "min width". Again! WoW! Thank you for sharing with the rest of us! Jim |
Hi All,
I wanted to show off an Atahualpa site I have just done for a client. http://www.securedb2.com/ Many thanks to Juggledad and Burn for sending me down the right path to get the menu buttons the way I wanted! And many thanks, of course, to Flynn for such a great, configurable theme!!! Ken |
:)Thanks, Shepard Jim, for the kind comments on Capital Flow Watch. This site is a re-casting of an older site I've been running for a number of years.
The Akismet plugin is now active. I've used this plugin for years and find it excellent. The 'plugins-used' plugin does allow to leave off the unused plugins, and I've now done that. I don't understand what you mean by adding back in Atahualpa etc. because it is mentioned. Maybe I should give Atahualpa greater prominence? Thanks for the tip on the problem with the center column. I've set the minimum width to 1200 px as you suggested. I hadn't noticed this. The 'Featured on inside pages section' uses the 'Get Custom Field Values' plugin to randomly display categorized text similar to excerpts on selected articles, styled with CSS, in six widget areas placed in the center column. The purpose is to high-light certain articles that otherwise would be lost on the inside pages. Thanks again. |
Hi
I havent done anything to the page for a long time, but this is what it looks like for now www.frodem.no I'll get around some day to refresh and maybe a new design, when I get the time to do it :) Frode |

Re my mention of ATA -- sorry, I guess I was so fascinated by your listing of all your plugins that I just missed your crediting of ATA/BytesForAll. "Maybe I should give Atahualpa greater prominence?" YES! By all means! You, of all people, certainly appreciate the depth and versatility of Flynn's creation. Your site is the first I've seen that rivals Paula's Larchmont Gazette. You might consider giving ATA separate credit back in the main footer next to your general "Acknowledgments" link. Thanks again for sharing! Now, I have to visit that Get Custom Field Values plugin and see how it works -- you make it sound SO SIMPLE! Jim |
Thought I'd share my newly created site as I've enjoyed looking at what other people have put together. I just came across this theme last week and put together my iPhone programming site in about 3 days. I hadn't touched WP in about 2 yrs and even before it was only for a limited amount of time. I found Atahualpa almost overwhelming at first given all the options but soon found that it was the perfect solution to the frustration I'd experienced with the previous theme I had been using.
I'm still tweaking and making adjustments as I go, but most of the heavy lifting has been completed so that I could at least go live with the new theme. I haven't added a page for it yet, but I've found the visitor maps plug-in to also be pretty entertaining. Visit pocketworx.com if you get a change and feel free to ping me with any particular suggestions for improvement. thx |

I use only some of the features of this plugin. Jim, I hope this is useful. (I'm not sure whether this is the proper place to post this.) |
Love this theme, still working on it, although not much these past few weeks, hope to spend more time on it later this week.

I just started my blog a few days ago. Here it is: http://x-evolutionist.com/
I have not customized it too much yet. Here are two things I want to be able to do: 1. I want to center the title and tagline in the header. 2. I want to edit my css so I can pick the colors that I want my links to be. I want them all the same throughout so I can change them all at once if I want a change. I don't know how to do that stuff. Any help would be appreciated! X |
Hands down - THE best theme out there!
Here are three that I've done: mikerielly.com gspstudios.com/blog tigercal.com I have three more sites I am going to move over to Atahualpa! |
Hey -
I thought I should throw mine in here as well. I'm using this theme as the basis of an expanding stable f niche membership sites - we've built some custom plugins for it, but the theme allows for complete flexibility. Which I love. First site is here: My Twitter Toolbox David |
maximze... If I may ask... What did you use for your menu?
|
So I am completely new to this with absolutely NO knowledge of how to build a site. I'm glad I picked the best theme to work with!
My first attempt took me two weeks and I completely lost the site (probably was hacked or ?? because I set my permission numbers too high). Anyway it was a good learning experience. This time around I have it up and running in less than a week. I still have two categories to finish up and then add all the meta tags and set up the rss etc. But here is what I have so far on my site It is a pet site geared towards basic info and I wanted it to be fun. Be kind in your criticisms please! |
iamklw... I think you did pretty good for a newbie. The only thing that hit me right off is that I think having the banner picture and the width of the content the same would help visually. For someone who says they are completely new to this with no idea of how to build a site you did better than many who have done this for some time. For instance you didn't use the default favicon, you added a nice slideshow plugin and it appears from what you said you are persistent which is probably the most important of all. Again... Good Job and me and my family love animals too.
|
Thank you for your kind words, but now I have to show my ignorance....what is a banner picture? Are you referring to the header image? If so I agree that I have a couple of images in there that are not wide enough - I was just going to remove those images so the rest of the images will span the window (I have it set to fluid but have the maximum set to 1350 which is the width of most of the images.
|
Sorry... Header images is what I was referring to. It looks like your widest are 1250px though. I usually set my sites to a static width of a little less than 1000px. Fluid tends to mess up layouts of pictures with text at times but I would at least set your maximum to 1250px.

I'm in the process of moving my blog from Typepad to WP using Atahualpa. Why did I wait to long? ! ?
Atahualpa provides everything I need and I've enjoyed the easy-to-use customisation. A Common Reader Any comments welcome Tom |
Hello everybody.
I've been a lurker on this board, sifting through entries focused on problems/glitches I had with the theme.. Anyways... I thought it might be nice to join in in case I had a problem that hasn't been up here. Meanwhile, here's what I made with the script: http://www.alongtheroad.de/ Comments, appreciation and rotten tomatoes this way :) |
Love it! Very un-bloggy. How about telling us your method for getting the gray/white background graphic in your widgets and post titles, like Welcome, Gallery, New Start? Did you use CSS inserts? How about the gaps between widgets and posts?
|
Quote:
For the titles of widgets and posts, I used a graphic as a background and put it into the ATO >> Style Widget >> Widget Title box. The gaps were achieved basically by giving the center column/post page the background of the page, then I gave the posts a different background color, borders and such. I can't explain this properly, but maybe it helps. |

May I ask where you found those social media icons? They look great :) |
|
here are a few I have been building , keep in mind that a few are a work in progress
Buildasite.com bubsyboo.com my kids site no1 my kid site no 2 Weirdwackyweb.com bribieIsland explored.com |

I honestly don't recall where I got the icons. I think I just googled "social icons", "social media icons", or "social networking icons" and found some that I liked. I have an entire HUGE folder of them because I just kept downloading new ones and putting them into my "social icons" folder. www.vecteezy.com has some, but I don't think it has those that I'm using. |
Quote:
Not the exact same ones but you can never have enough social network icons. Yay for variety. Thanks for the link. |
OK, I'm kind of timid because this is new territory for me, but here's the site I'm working on, being launched to our congregation this weekend. [url="http://www.compresby.org"]
I'm still tweaking it and a few pages are waiting content from the members. This is the FIRST site I've ever made and half of what I was able to accomplish is due to searching this board! I started this site 2 weeks ago with my only prior knowledge being a 'test' site on wordpress.com. Now, if I could just figure out why the post bylines are not showing up and what in the world meta tags are that are listed on every page, I'd be happy! I'm still learning SEO and am trying to configure BFA SEO, so bear with me! OK, constructive criticism welcome, but be kind please, I'm a novice! Thanks! DEnise |
Did you add code the the Byline areas in ATO>Edit POST/PAGE INFO ITEMS? Good start by the way. You have a fixed width layout where many newbies leave it flexible and you have implemented a fading header. Good choice of colors.
|
Hi Larry,
Thanks for the reply, even though my link didn't work:confused: I took me awhile to figure out that width issue...it seems like the easier things are harder for me to get! Anyway, about the byline I have this: By %author-nickname%, on %date('F jS, Y')% in the byline field for both single and multi post pages. I have the pastor set up with a nickname of pastordennis on Users->nickname->display name publicly as-> and he's on the site as an author. What am I missing? Thanks! Denise |
I looks like the byline is working OK on single post pages. Not sure as yet why it is not on multi-post pages. I'll keep looking.

Atahualpa is so powerful. Just learned it to whip up a site for a buddy of mine.
